Glacier Keys
A distinctive sound, made possible by sampling. Glacier Keys delivers rich piano harmonics performed on a Steinway D, creating a shimmering, glass-like timbre that is entirely unique.
A harmonic is created by gently touching a string in just the right place to mute the fundamental tone and allow the harmonic, an octave above, to resonate.
Glacier Keys takes this concept, typically found in string libraries, and applies it to the Steinway Model D concert grand piano. Through the act of sampling this technique in detail, Glacier Keys allows you to perform harmonics as easily as you would a regular piano – something which would be impractical, if not impossible, to achieve in a live recording. This piano feels natural to play while delivering a glass-like timbre that’s truly unique.
Along with these distinct raw sounds, Glacier Keys includes 11 Atmosphere Layers and a variety of microphone positions, offering quick ways to alter the piano’s perspective and tone. These features are explored through 11 snapshots curated by the Fracture Sounds team, providing a one-of-a-kind addition to any score.
New Update
Glacier Keys has been expanded with the latest update featuring our newest innovations, including response controls that can completely reshape the default patch’s original sound. The update also introduces a refreshed user interface and an additional 8 Atmosphere Layers, providing much greater variety and options beyond the original library.
Detailed Controls
As with all our piano libraries, we have taken a detailed approach to sampling Glacier Keys, capturing every nuance—including the mechanical noises of the pedals and hammers. We have also added a room tone control, allowing you to reintroduce the natural ambience picked up by the microphones, which is often lost during the sample-cleaning process.
Microphone Options
Glacier Keys introduces individual microphone mixes to our piano lineup. With the option to choose from a broadcast-ready mix of close, mid, and far microphones, you can dramatically transform the sound, shifting from intimate to ambient with ease.
Atmosphere Layers
Atmosphere Layers add rich, evolving pads beneath the raw piano samples, allowing for seamless blending and customisation. Controlled by the Atmosphere Intensity (linked to CC1/Mod Wheel), these layers transform the piano’s sound, making the instrument truly immersive and instantly inspiring.

We are delighted to offer full NKS support for Glacier Keys. Harnessing the power of Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol keyboards, you have full hands-on control of the instrument, using the built-in display and parameter controls on the keyboard. This also means that Glacier Keys is accessible to blind and visually impared musicians. Furthermore, Glacier Keys is compatible with the free Kontakt Player, with activation through Native Access, meaning you can use the library without purchasing any additional software.
